Wild & Rooted brings the spirit of Colorado's natural world to life through a fusion of two folk art traditions — the rich symbolic language of Mexican alebrije culture and the bold botanical forms of Scandinavian folk art.
In Mexican tradition, your personal alebrije animals carry deep spiritual meaning. Mine are the owl, deer, fox, and rabbit — each one also a creature of the Colorado landscape I call home. Rendered in a Scandinavian folk art visual language, their forms are filled with flowers, leaves, spirals, and swirls that echo local flora. The result is something personal and placed — a celebration of wild creatures, rooted landscape, and the belief, shared across both traditions, that the natural world is alive with meaning.
